Because sometimes good things come in small packages
Northwestern Istria is a region on the NW coast of the Adriatic Sea, comprising the towns of Umag, Novigrad, Buje, Brtonigla, Motovun, Grožnjan and Oprtalj. Despite its relatively small size, it is jam-packed with a remarkable variety of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and excellent food & wine. Its lively coastline and beaches on the one hand, and attractive hilly interior on the other, make it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia.
This region is a magnet for sports and recreation buffs. It boasts excellent natural and artificial playgrounds, as well as numerous cycling competitions, tennis and football tournaments, half marathons and trail running races. Every year Umag hosts the Plava Laguna Croatia Open, the only ATP tournament in Croatia, attracting thousands of tennis and fun-seeking enthusiast from all over the world.
This part of Istria is also home to mega-popular music events such as the Sea Star Festival, as well as jazz and blues nights, chamber theatre, festivals of fire, accordion, comic books, motorbikes & heavy rock'n'roll.
