Saint Lawrence

Every village in Istria has its own festivity and the inhabitants of Nova Vas, one of the oldest and largest villages in Brtonigla, celebrate the holiday of Saint Lawrence. Every August, this religious festivity brings merriment to the local population, accompanied not only with music and dancing, but also with an attractive hiking route across the nearby hillocks overlooking the largest river in Istria - Mirna. The historical fortifications in the surroundings are testimonies of life in Antiquity and the inhabitants will tell you that their settlement was established as early as in the 16th ct. in the vicinity of scattered older villages. Saint Michael and Dionysius were celebrated for decades, but nowadays, only the festivity of Saint Lawrence remains, although his church is located in the neighbouring Pavići. Read more

Fest of our Lady of Lourdes

The folk festivity of Our Lady of Lourdes in the village of Radini nearby Brtonigla has been commemorating the appearance of the Virgin Mary for over eighty years. Our Lady of Lourdes allegedly appeared in 1922 to a local woman Marina Pirovich, who communicated to the pastor the wish to build a church in Mary’s honour. Although her story invoked religious fervour in the hearts of other inhabitants who supported the idea, the priest remained unconvinced until the pleas were finally granted by the next pastor Roberto Galetti. The entire village participated in the construction. The wealthier families of Radini provided the land, stone was taken from the nearby quarry and the altar was designed by an unknown architect from the town of Pula who translated a vision of the cave in France in which little Beatrice saw Our Lady of Lourdes for the first time, to Radini. 18. međunarodni festival komornog teatra „Zlatni lav“, ove godine, održati će predstavu „(Slučajni) Perveznjak“ u Brtonigli. Monodrama je nastala po tekstu američkog autora Andrewa Goffmana, čiju režiju potpisuje Goran Grgić, a izvodi je Vladimir Andrić. Vrlo zabavan tekst govori o ozbiljnim stranama naizgled bezazlene priče o ovisnosti o pornografskim filmovima. To je jednako tako priča o odrastanju, upoznavanju seksualnosti i uklapanju u „normalan“ život, raznovrsniji od ovisničke utopije. The exhibition: Medieval torture devices

The Middle Ages are often referred to as the Dark Ages, and the exhibition “Medieval torture devices”, featuring over fifty reconstructions of the grisly devices from the period, certainly justifies the appellation. Reconstructed torture devices used in punitive procedures throughout Europe from the Middle Ages to the 18th ct. or even longer, will be displayed in the future Museum of wine and rural production in Brtonigla until June 10, 2013. The author of the exhibition and owner of the impressive collection of torture devices is Polish artist and collector Piotr Buczkowski. Read more
