Between 30 June and 9 July 2013, apart from Vukovar and Ludbreg, Umag will be one of the hosts of the first World Art Games.
The idea of world art games was first conceived by the renowned Croatian-Israeli painter Petar Weisz in Osijek in 2008. The World Art Games are envisaged as a sort of the cultural Olympic Games, with the primary goal of connecting and networking artists from all over the world. Over 60 countries currently participate in the project. Since Croatia was the birthplace of the idea, the first games will be held here, after which they will take place in a different country every two years.
This huge cultural manifestation will include all art forms – from painting, sculpting, ceramics, photography, film, theatre, music, fashion, design to cooking, and numerous world famous and recognized artists will present themselves in the mentioned disciplines.
The Umag program will begin with the festive opening ceremonies at Trg slobode on 30 June. The first manifestation from the program will be the opening of the exhibition of the works of approximately eighty visual artists and thirty photographers and sculptors, scheduled to take place at the Multimedia centre of the Umag Open University, Gallery Marin and Museum of the Town of Umag.
Apart from the above exhibition, all visitors will enjoy the varied program and musical expressions presenting the culture of a great number of countries, especially Norway, Malaysia, Portugal, Chile, Canada, Mexico, Columbia, etc.
