    Martinje - Feast Day of St. Martin

    Each November, when the sweet juice of new wine is born, the town of Momjan celebrates the Feast Day of St. Martin, its patron saint. European traditions consider this Catholic saint to be the patron saint of vintners and wine growers and, in many countries, new wine is “baptised” on this very day.     Mushroom days

    The traditional celebration of mushrooms "Mushroom days" will be organized by the Buje area mushroom pickers' association "Boletus" - Brtonigla branch, in cooperation with the Brtonigla Tourist Board and the Municipality of Brtonigla.     The Holiday of Grapes

    Buje is a place of fertile fields and vineyards. It has a one-hundred year old tradition of celebrating and giving thanks for the produce of its land. In early times, the festival symbolically marked the start of the grape-harvesting season. Today, it is a prominent and well-known celebration with a variety of programmes, numerous games, tasting sessions, music and dance. Local farming traditions are manifested in hundreds of ways during the festivities, while at the same time thanks is given for the soil’s fertility. Gathering in a great allegorical procession, residents and their guests reminisce about work done in the fields, and the harvesting and processing of the grapes. They also announce the beginning of autumn activities that take place in the wine cellars. Read more

    International Festival of Antique Sepomaia viva

    Popular among the inhabitants and the guests, the historic festival Sepomaia viva invites some ancient times when Istria was ruled by the Romans. White wine was drunk with honey, and rose petals were added to the red one. The life flourished in the rustic villas around the present-day Umag, and the standard of beauty and cuisine were different than today. That was between the 1st and the 4th c. AD, in the times when a part of the north-western part of Istrian coast near Umag was known under the name of Sepomaia. Read more

    In the kingdom of Muškat wine

    Enological and cultural manifestation "In the empire of Muscat" will be held at a picturesque location in the vicinity of the medieval Momiano castle for the ninth time. Momjanski Muškat is a dry, sweet wine of a deep golden colour with an aroma reminiscent of wild carnations, roses and sage. Over the centuries, it has created its kingdom on the hills surrounding Momjan, a picturesque village near Buje. The tasting of this typically Istrian wine is a special pleasure and its fans will get an opportunity to taste Muscats presented by the Momiano Muscateers, winemakers Kozlović, Markežić, Sinković, Prelac and Brajko.     Known as a supreme delicacy ever since the times of the Mesopotamian rulers, Roman emperors, the French court and the Austro - Hungarian monarchs, the truffle has always been and remains a prestigious gastronomic ingredient worldwide. In the heart of the Mirna river valley a hundred years ago a place called Livade has developed and since the beginning of the 20th century when in the valley of the Mirna river white truffles were discovered, this little place has become world famous as the center of the famous Istrian white truffle. In Istria there are several fairs and festivals dedicated to the truffle, but since 1994, during October the visit to Tuberfest - the fair of Istrian white truffles, is an exceptional opportunity to see and taste white truffle.
